Agapito M. Lucero, 54, of Fort Sumner, NM died Thursday, May 5, 2005 at his home. Agapito was born July 2, 1950 in Corona, NM, the son of Alfredo Lucero and the former Martina Garcia. He was reared in Fort Sumner where he attended and graduated from High School. He attended Clovis Community College Automotive Program. Agapito was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked as a seismograph operator for several years traveling across the U.S. He has also worked road construction for many years, most recently with White Cloud Construction Company in Roswell and Las Cruces, NM. Agapito was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner and a member of the American Legion in Clovis. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Agapito was a loving father, and a good provider who adored his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a daughter Angelica Enriquez and husband Orlando of Fort Sumner; three sons Rudy Lucero (Vanessa); Gregg Lucero; and Pete Lucero (Nicole) all of Fort Sumner; two sisters Felipa Downing of Fort Sumner; Theresa Marshall (Keith) of Las Cruces, NM; four brothers Nick Lucero (Dora) of Fort Sumner; Gabe Lucero (Sis) of Grand Junction, CO; Ruben Lucero; and Simon Lucero (Tammy) of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are seven grandchildren Tristen, Mea, and Haily Lucero; Aliyah and Alexys Lucero; Jasmine Castillo, and Evangelese Enriquez along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 from St. Anthony Catholic Church; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Anthony’s at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Beto Lopez, Scott Marshall, Gilbert Pena, Michael Garcia, Simon Lucero, and Danny Garcia. Honorary bearers will be Stanford Salazar, Adi Roybal, Mike Ortiz, and Nick Lucero, along with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be Monday from 1pm to 5pm at the funeral home.
