Dorothy Helen Neuman, 81 of Fort Sumner died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell following an illness. She was born November 6, 1926 in Wellington, TX to the home of George and Elizabeth (Gleaton) Anderson. She was reared and attended school at Littlefield, TX, Melrose and Fort Sumner. Dorothy married Francis Henry Neuman on May 28, 1946 in Seattle, Washington. Dorothy completed cosmetology school in Napa, CA and worked for many years as a beautician in Oregon City, OR where she and Francis made their home for many years. In 1978 they purchased a farm in the Fort Sumner valley that served as their summer home until they moved here in 1988. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and caring for her yard and her pets. She also enjoyed hosting her family during the holidays; she loved fishing and the outdoors. Dorothy was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis Neuman on April 3, 1999; her parents; five sisters LG Sinclair, Thelma Anderson, Eva Teal, Jewel Sasser, Mae Hodges; three brothers Andy, Carl and Joe Anderson. Survivors include a brother Doug Anderson and wife Shelby of Gaston, IN; four sisters Fran Nahlovsky of Fort Sumner; Fern Hay and husband George of Milnesand, NM; Blanch Boyd of Fort Sumner; Wanda Mechnig and husband Bill of Roswell; two sisters-in-law Bea Anderson and Jessie Anderson of Fort Sumner along with many nieces, nephews, the Neuman families, good friends and neighbors. A Communion service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 26, 2008 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner with Sister Teresita Garcia officiating.
