Confy M Romero

Maria Conferina "Confy" Romero, age 80, passed away June 16, 2005 at her residence in Colonias, NM following an illness. Confy was born June 18, 1924 in Gascon, NM to the home of Jose Bonifacio and Pilar Grene Martinez. She was reared and attended schools in Wattenburg, CO. Confy married Carlos B. Romero on July 9, 1944 in Santa Rosa. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she and Carlos were members of the Spanish Choir and most recently the Puerto De Luna Choir and also a member of the Sacred Heart Society. Carlos and Confy gave much of their time singing and playing for Saturday and Sunday Masses, Funerals and weddings as well as fiestas. Confy loved playing bingo, crocheting, making jewelry, cooking, gardening, dancing and singing. She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Sophie Romero, brothers; Jose Archuleta, Pat Solano and Ralph Martinez, sisters; Petra Solano and Theresita Garcia. Survivors include her husband Carlos of the family home in Colonias, NM, her children; Angelina Gochenour and husband Martin of Denver, CO, Viola Romero and husband Benjamin of Gilcrest, CO, Elvira "Billie" Bachicha and husband Raymond of Brighton, CO, Ralph Romero of Colonias, Veronica L. Garcia,and husband Richard of Brighton, CO, step daughter Martha Perea and husband Richard of Albuquerque, NM, her sister Jennie Sailas of Wattenburg, CO, sister in law Cecilia Lalla of Las Cruces. NM. Also surviving are her 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be conducted on Monday, June 20, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 21, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Colonias. Serving as Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Caspell Chavez, Conrad Chavez, Carlos Romero, Ricky Ben Romero, Ralph Romero, Jr., Estevan Sanchez, Richard A. Garcia, Jr. and Adam C. Garcia. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Sisco Bachicha, Zane Martinez and members of the Puerto De Luna Choir. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
