Orville “Jody” Edwards, 86 of Clovis, NM died Friday, November 21, 2003 at Plains Regional Medical Center following an illness. Orville was born May 24, 1917 in Colorado City, Texas to the home of Claude James Edwards and the former Vesta B. Stephens. Jody was reared and attended school at Fort Sumner. He married Peggy Edwards on May 1, 1940 in Fort Sumner. Jody worked as an auto mechanic at Ford, Lincoln Mercury dealerships in Fort Sumner, Clovis and Las Cruces, NM. He made his home in Clovis in 1998. Jody was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother who will be dearly missed by his family. Jody was preceded in death by his father, Claude James Edwards in 1948, his mother; Vesta B. Edwards in 1969; a brother Claude Homer Edwards in 1996 and a sister Hazel Odessa Edwards in 1994. Survivors include his wife Peggy L. Edwards of Clovis, NM; one son Monte R. Edwards and wife Shirley of Datil, NM; two grandsons Ben U. Edwards and wife Beth of Las Cruces, NM; Jody Edwards of Organ, NM; one great-grandchild, Katie Edwards; two sisters Lavelle Wilson and husband J.W. of Fort Sumner, NM; Ada Mae DeFoor of Clovis, NM; three brothers Shelton Edwards and wife Patricia of Farmington, NM; Roy A. Edwards and wife Jeaney of Lubbock, TX; and Dalton Edwards and wife Judith of Rio Rancho, NM. Graveside Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 23, 2003 from the Fort Sumner Cemetery with Chaplain Bill Bridwell of Farwell Convalescent Center officiating. Pallbearers include Steve Edwards, John Edwards, Dennis Defoor, John Wilson, Quintin Wilson, and Chip Chandler. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 804 North Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Visitation hours will be Saturday from 10AM to 6PM and Sunday from 10AM until service time. The family prefers memorials to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, Box 180; Fort Sumner, NM 88119; or the Farwell Convalescent Center, Farwell, Texas.
