Antonio J. "Tony" Ortega, age 81, passed away suddenly on March 14, 2007 while working at the Alsups convenience Store. Tony was born May 25, 1925 in Puerto De Luna to the home of Luis and Teva Montano Ortega. Tony served as a Coporal in the United States Marines during WWII. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Area, Hawiian Islands, Marianas Islands, Marshall Islands and Ryukyu Islands Japan and participated in action against the Japanese on Saipan, Okinawa. Tony married Maria Saiz on May 24, 1955 in Fresno, CA. He worked for Nip Drilling Company in Santa Rosa for many years. He retired from the City of Santa Rosa where he worked in the Maintenance Dept., Custodian, and Ambulance Driver. After his retirement Tony went to work at the T and D Food Market and was currently working at the Alsups Convenience Store. Tony always had a warm smile and friendly greeting when you walked into Alsups. He was alway willing to lend a hand in any way he could. Tony is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Maria. Survivors include his daughter; Toni Jones and husband Hoyte of Murfreesboro, TN his sons; Michael Ortega of Newnan, GA and David Ortega of Mckinlyville, CA, stepsons; Vincent Saiz and wife Susan, Arthur Saiz and wife Barbara of Albuqurque. Also surviving are his brother and sisters; Luis Ortega, Jr. and wife Josie, Amelia Romero and husband John, Patricia Smith, Ida Rutledge and husband Charles, Sophia Alcon, Dora Anaya and husband Eddie and Dilia Ulibarri, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Sunday, March 18, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 19, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Fred Saiz, Jimmy Quintana, Eddie Muller, Micheal Cones, Victoria Chavez and Consuelo Salazar. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
