Wilma Gragg Parker

Wilma Gragg Parker, 96 of Clovis, NM died Friday, October 4, 2002 at Golden Age Nursing Center. Mrs. Parker was born August 2, 1906 in Welston, Oklahoma to the home of George Washington Gragg and the former Veora Nash. She was reared and attended school at Lindsay, OK and later attended college at Edmond, OK and Eastern New Mexico University at Portales, NM. She was a longtime educator in Oklahoma and New Mexico. She taught at Fort Sumner from 1944 to 1954 and at Marshall Junior High and Yucca Junior High in Clovis until her retirement in 1972. She was an avid bridge player and attended the Senior Citizens in Clovis. Wilma made her home in Fort Sumner from 1943 until the summer of 1954 when she moved to Clovis. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, and a longtime member of Eastern Star and White Shrine. Wilma was preceded in death by by her husband John T. Parker in 1974; four brothers Lloyd O. Gragg, Ernest Gragg, Rollie Gragg, and Arthur Gragg. Survivors include her daughter Wanda Wade of Clovis, NM; one granddaughter Beverly Duncan of Denton, TX; two great-grandchildren James Wesley White of Mesquite, TX, Patricia DeLynne Hickman of Lubbock, TX, four great-great-grandchildren Hunter Bailey White, Jacob Wesley White, James Richard Hickman and Jessica Leelynne Hickman, one sister Flosye Barnhill of Tucumcari, NM, along several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 9, 2002 from the Fort Sumner Cemetery Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. The family will be at 2709 Sheldon in Clovis. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 4PM to 6PM on Tuesday, October 8th. The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimers Association, the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119 or the charity of one’s choice. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
