Leo Chavez, Jr., age 20 passed away August 15, 2004 in Phoenix, Arizona. Leo was born October 30, 1983 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Leo Chavez and Carmella Chacon. He was reared and attended schools graduating from Santa Rosa High School Class of 2002. Leo was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Kids Club and the St. Rose Youth Group. While in High School he particpated in football, MECHA, and his favorite Lady Lions Basketball Manager. Leo enjoyed working on cars, painting, playing his bass guitar, riding horses, hunting, spending time with his family and friends and especially his godson Matthew. Survivors include his father Leo Chavez, Sr. of Santa Rosa, his mother Carmella Chacon of Santa Rosa, his sister Reyna Chavez of Santa Rosa, his brothers Gabriel Chavez of Albuquerque and Daniel and Dylan Bradley of Santa Rosa, his godson and nephew Matthew Martin Chavez, his paternal grandparents Ernesto and Evelyn Chavez of Santa Rosa, his maternal grandmother Dolores Chacon of Santa Rosa and his great-grandmother Erlinda Chavez of Clovis along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends and relatives. Rosary services will be conducted on Thursday evening at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 20, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Delano Chavez, Ruben Chavez, Santiago Chavez, Guillermo Chavez, Michael Chavez, Robert Chavez, Miguel Chavez, Joaquin Chavez, Ricardo Lopez and Andre Lopez. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be David Urban, Chris Fuentes, Manuel Funetes, Matthew Martin Chavez, Matthew Martinez, Robert (Dragon) Chavez, Brian Sanchez, Santiago Gonzalez, Larry Jaramillo, John Tenorio, Jesse Chavez, Brian Chavez, Matthew Gallegos, Charlie Chavez and Steven Anthony Chavez. A benefit account for Leo had been set up at Wells Fargo Bank. All arrangements are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
