Ruby Marrion Vance

Ruby Marrion Vance, 76 of Fort Sumner died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, NM following an illness. Ruby was born August 17, 1926 in Elkton, Colorado to the home of Frank Howard Foster and the former Sarah Johnson. She was reared at Amarillo and Vega, TX. She graduated from Vega High School. Ruby moved with her family to Fort Sumner in 1945. She met Conrad Ruben Vance in Fort Sumner; they were married on July 24, 1948 at Clovis, NM. Ruby was a homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her family. She worked for a short time at Vicks Laundry and later she and Conrad delivered the Clovis News Journal in Fort Sumner for 18 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and sister. Ruby enjoyed camping, fishing, canning, and sewing for her children and grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Buster Foster, George Foster, and Jack Foster; two sisters Elsie Jane Huddleston and Frances Speed. Survivors include her husband of 54 years Conrad Vance of the home in Fort Sumner; two sons George Vance and wife Jeannie of Roundrock, TX; Tommy Vance and wife Chris of Haymarket, VA; one daughter Judy Roybal and husband Manuel of Fort Sumner; four brothers Dick Foster, and Gene Foster of Fort Sumner; John Foster of Atlanta, GA; Bill Foster of Roswell, NM and one sister Dolly Vennum of Roswell, NM. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 29, 2002 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Vance family plot at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Manuel Roybal, George Vance, Tommy Vance, Chad Vance, Jeffery Vance, Bobby Foster, Lee Foster, and Frank Foster. Honorary bearers will be all her family and friends. The family prefers memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1pm to 6pm and Thursday evening from 7PM to 9PM at the funeral home. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
