Jose Elauterio Sisneros

December 23, 1922 — June 21, 2004

Jose Elauterio Oracio Sisneros, of Ukiah, CA, died Monday, June 21, 2004 at the age of 81. His full life began on December 23, 1922 in the small village of Dahlia, in the state of New Mexico. He was the third born of nine surviving children to Margarito and Otilia Sisneros. As a young man, Jose served his country as a Navy Seabee during WWII in the Marianna Islands of the South Pacific Theater. After his tour of duty, he returned home and married his sweetheart Erlinda and began work as a flag man on a road crew. Seeing so many people headed to California, he decided he would follow two brothers who had already moved to the bay area. With his wife and first born, they eventually settled in Ukiah in 1949. Together, over 57 years, they would raise five children, help raise grandchildren, build a home, pursue many business ventures, and form a wide circle of friends. Jose worked for 25 years as a boilerman/fireman for Masonite Corp and never thought he would see it close. Throughout his lifetime his many different endeavors include: owning rental properties, the Fair Mart Grocery store, a second hand store and a firewood business. He was also an active volunteer during his life. A long standing member of St. Mary's Church, he was a past memebr of the Knights of Columbus and a founding member of the Concilio Latino Americano Club affiliated with the Church. Over the past twenty years, his volunteer work grew. He was proud to be a driver for the Veterans Administration transporting Veterans to San Francisco, and was recognized for his distinguished service. Most recently, he was a Senior Companion and will be missed by many good friends including Richard Stephens, his most recent Senior Companion. In 2001, he received recognition from the California State Assembly honoring his work with the Senior Companion Program. In 2003 he was a Mcovy Award Nominee for Medncoino County Outstanding Volunteer of the Year. He was also a dedicated volunteer at the Ukiah Food Bank and formed many freindships there. Jose will be remembered for his big heart, his unique sense of humor, his intense love of family and friends, but most importantly, his genuine compassion for all mankind. He was a true Christian. He was often a stubborn yet determined man. This was offset a million fold by his omnipresent willingness to help anyone in Need. Mourning his loss are: Erlinda, his wife of 57 years, three sisters Rose and Agneda, both of New Mexico, and Paulita of Colorado, five brothers, Ovaldo of New Mexico, Louis, Jose Leon, Edward and Trinidad all of Califronia.
