Glenna Fern Gibson

Glenna Fern Gibson, 82, a longtime House, NM resident died Sunday, October 20, 2002 at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales, NM. Glenna was born August 23, 1920 in Norton, NM to the home of Lee Leon Bell and the former Alta Luna Smith. She was reared and attended school at Norton. Glenna married Willard Omer Gibson on December 18, 1937 at Clovis, NM. They made their home at House, NM from 1946 to 1961 and 1970-1996. Willard and Glenna also made their home at Portales from 1961-1969. Following Willard's death in 1996 Glenna made her home in Portales. Glenna was a longtime member of House Methodist Church where she was involved in all facets of the church and it's missions. She supported the Blue Angels, a children's choir group. While living at Portales, she participated in the A.W. Freeman Sunday School Class and Wesleyan Women's Church group at First United Methodist Church. When the children were growing up Glenna supported and participated in all their activities. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed by her family. She enjoyed painting, sewing and spending sunrises and sunsets with her husband. Her hobbies included her kids and grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband Willard Omer Gibson on February 19, 1996; a daughter Kay Coffey on June 21, 2002; a brother Dale Eugene Bell and her parents. Survivors include a son Leon Gibson and wife Linda of Carrizozo, NM; two daughters, Alta Elder and husband Thurman of Portales, NM; Carolyn Martin and husband August of Aurora, CO; a son-in-law O.B. Coffey of Logan, NM; and one sister Erma Stallard of Fort Sumner, NM. Ten grandchildren Jonna Smith, Lori Gibson, Deanna Wilson, Brenda Kirkwood, Michael Blandford, Debra Morsey, Lisa Williams, Stephanie Martin, Greg Martin, and Jill Martin. Twelve Great-grandchildren Bryce Smith, Madison Smith, Jesse Wilson, Chandra Wilson, Klayton Kirkwood, Kayla Kirkwood, Haley Williams, Ryan Williams, Jordan Morsey, Jerrick, Morsey, Jackson Morsey, and Justin Morsey. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 24, 2002 at the Methodist Church in House, NM with Rev. Karel Smith officiating. Burial will follow at House Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Paul and Brenda Kirkwood, Jim and Deanna Wilson, Borde and Lisa Williams, Johnny and Debra Morsey, Brett and Jonna Smith, Michael Blandford and Lori Gibson. Honorary bearers will be all her Great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. The family prefers memorials to the House Methodist Church, House, New Mexico or the charity of your choice. Visitation hours will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 1PM to 6PM at the funeral home and Thursday, from 9AM to 10AM at the Church.
