Himelda Aragon

Himelda Aragon, age 94, passed away October 6, 2002 following an illness. Himelda was born February 8, 1908 in Anton Chico, NM to the home of Nicolas and Aurelia Marquez Aragon. She was reared and attended schools in Vaughn. Himelda graduated from Vaughn High School in 1926. She continued her education at Normal University in Las Vegas, NM, now Highlands University. She received her teaching certificate and taught schools in Palma, Pinavetitos Ranch, Duran, Willard and Torreon. She returned to teach in Duran until her retirement when Encino and Duran schools consolidated in 1971. Himelda received her Bachelors degree in Science in 1954 and her Masters Degree in 1971. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Duran and the Sacred Heart Society. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters Eduardo Aragon, Moises Aragon, Anita Aragon, Otilia Aragon, Rita Aragon, Juanito Aragon and Aurelia Aragon. Survivors include her caretakers Daniel and Jeanette Lopez who lovingly cared for Himelda for many years and their children Danny and Felipe Lopez. Rosary services were held on Monday evening at 7:00 from St. John the Baptist Church in Duran, NM. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday morning at 10:00 also at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial followed at the Duran Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers were Nazim Hindi, Joe Madril, Jimmy Chavez, Valentin Lopez, Brahaim Hindi and Brahaim Hindi, Jr. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Danny Lopez and Felipe Lopez. All services were entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
