James H. Peterson, 71 of Fort Sumner, NM died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. He was born June 15, 1931 in Lead, South Dakota to the home of Walter H. Peterson and the former Zita Grace McMann. James attended school at Lead and Whitewood, SD. He worked as a Uranium Miner with Homestate Mining Company at Hewlett, Wyoming and Grants, NM until his retirement. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his family. James was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Dorothy Peterson in 1994. Survivors include his wife Lisa Peterson of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Rebecca Peterson of Clovis, NM and son Brandon James Peterson of Fort Sumner, NM, one granddaughter Alicia Grace Peterson of Texico; two brothers Walter Peterson of Tucson, AZ and Ted Peterson of Cob, CA; also surviving are four sisters Betty Carter of Lead, SD, Darlene McGrath of Boise, Idaho; Carol Helwig of Dallas, TX; and Mae Peterson of Plankenton, SD. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 1, 2002 from the Fort Sumner Cemetery with Sister Teresita Garcia officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
