Ruben L. Peacock, 89, a longtime Quay County rancher and farmer died Sunday, August 20, 2000 at De Baca General Hospital in Fort Sumner following an illness. Mr. Peacock was born September 15, 1910 in Lorenzo, Texas to the home of Luther Martin Peacock and the former Essie Drucilla Rogers. At age six he moved with his family to the Claud community. His father later bought a farm and ranch near House, NM. Ruben along with his older brother Othel Alvie worked the ranch and farm along with their father. Ruben married Bee Alma Morgan on January 5, 1938 at Tucumcari. They lived on the Crow’s ranch in the Ima Valley from 1938 to 1940. Ruben and Bee Alma purchased land at Ima in 1940 where they made their home and raised their family. While living at Ima they attended church at the Ima community church. In 1976 they moved to House where they continued to farm and ranch. Ruben made his home at the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner on June 10, 1997. Ruben was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Roy Peacock who died as a child and Othel Alvie Peacock. Survivors include his wife Bee Alma Peacock of Tucumcari, NM; three sons Ruben Dale Peacock and wife Patty of Broken Bow, NB; Alvie Peacock and wife Laura of House, NM; Benny Peacock of House, NM; one daughter Goldie Baum and husband Bill of Tucumcari, NM; a sister Pauline Mitchell and husband Herman of Clovis, NM; five grandchildren Misti McAlevy and husband Ron of Broken Bow, NB; John Peacock, Jeff Peacock of House; Angela Peacock of Portales; and David Baum of Canyon, TX; one Great-grandchild Tiara McAlevy of Broken Bow, NB along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Rev. Sherman Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvie Peacock, Benny Peacock, Dale Peacock, Calvin Morgan, John Mitchell, and Bill Baum. Honorary bearers will be all his friends and neighbors. The family prefers memorials in Mr. Peacocks memory to the House Rescue, Box 682; House, NM 88121 or the charity of your choice.
