Juan P Chavez

Juan Pablo Chavez, age 76, passed away October 21, 2004 at the Guadalupe County Hospital in Santa Rosa following an illness. Juan was born November 9, 1927 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Manuel and Rosa Zamora Chavez. He was reared and attend schools in Santa Rosa. Juan served in the United States Army from 1952 through 1954. During his time he was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Juan married Edwina Urban on June 7, 1956 in Santa Rosa. He worked at the Federal Fish Hatchery and was the caretaker for the Santa Rosa Park Lake for many years where he and his wife Edwina and their children made their home. Juan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his ranch. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edwina, his sister Antonia Ortega, his brothers Manuel Chavez, Tiofilio Chavez and Eloy Chavez. Survivors include his daughters Carol Tapia and husband Ernest, Rose Marie Chavez and husband LeeRoy, Maryetta Gallegos and husband Roddy all of Santa Rosa, his grandchildren Monica Tapia, Yvonne Gallegos and R.J. Gallegos, his great grandchildren Tifany Sena, Zachary Campos, his brother Victor Chavez and wife Sarah of Santa Rosa, his sister Mary Sanchez of Albuqueruqe and a nephew raised as a brother Robert Chavez of Santa Rosa along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Friday October 22, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 23, also from St. Rose Church at 9:00 AM with Father Sotero Sena officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Serving as Pallbearers will be R.J. Gallegos, Dominic Chavez, Tifany Sena, Yvonne Gallegos, Erminio Chavez, Robert Chavez, Zachary Campos and Ernie Chavez. All services are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
