Richard O. “Dick” Vick, 85 of Clovis, NM died Friday, December 06, 2002 at Retirement Ranch. Dick was born July 17, 1917 in Crowell, Texas to the home of Jess Oran Vick and the former Carrie Haralson. He was reared at Crowell, Lubbock, Big Springs, and Mundy, Texas. He picked cotton as a youngster. Dick was a veteran of WW II where he served with the 897th Field Artillery Batallion, he was a Gun Commander. He was honorably discharged on December 2, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant his decorations and citations included the American Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon. His tours of duty included Ardennes, and Rhineland. Dick married Barnedith May Lusignan on May 22, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA. They made his home in Fort Sumner for many years where Dick managed the Arrowhead Service Station from 1946-1983. He also worked for the Fort Sumner Irrigation District for several years and was the caretaker at Fort Sumner Cemetery for four years. Dick served the Fort Sumner community as a director of the Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Fire Fighter and Past Fire Chief for the Village Volunteer Fire Department. He also served three years with the New Mexico Army National Guard. Dick was preceded in death by a son Richard Oran Vick Jr. on February 18, 1967; his parents; brothers Melvin, Rex, Horace; and his twin infant sister Floy Vick. Survivors include his wife of 59 years Barnedith Vick of the home in Clovis; two daughters Gloria Love and husband Bob; Connie Bryant and husband David all of Clovis; two brothers J.O. Vick of Santa Rosa and Carl Vick of Fort Sumner; two sisters Margrete Walker and Bobbie Franks and husband Donald of Fort Sumner; four grandchildren Kari Love of Omaha, Nebraska, David Bryant Jr., Bill Bryant, Leah Lapaglia and husband Tony all of Clovis, NM. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 8, 2002 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ with Mr. Skip Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Vick family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1PM to 6PM at the funeral home.
