Sarah Timm Howe

Sarah Louisa Timm Howe, 97 of Fort Sumner, NM died Thursday, April 28, 2005 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM. She was born September 22, 1907 at Lawton, Oklahoma to the home of Arthur G. and Dora (Moore) Wright. At age six, Sarah moved with her parents, five brothers, and grandmother to Fort Sumner, New Mexico, traveling by covered wagon. Sarah lived in or near Fort Sumner until May 13, 1998, when she made her home at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. Sarah married Criss C. Timm on May 19, 1928. They ranched near Fort Sumner until a few years before his death, when they moved into town. Mr. Timm died January 29, 1964. On May 22, 1970, Sarah married Melvin G. Howe in Fort Sumner. Mr. Howe died October 23, 1994. Sarah was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, Ranch Friends Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her friends, and was well known by those who knew her for her excellent cooking. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, a son Marshall Howe, five brothers, Walter, Loyd, Edd, Cleo, and Leo Wright. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Harry Pomeroy of Clovis; four grandchildren, Marsha Pomeroy-Huff and husband Clifford of Pittsburgh, PA; Suzie Pomeroy Brown and husband Robert of Lovington, NM; Cory Howe and wife Bobbi of Racine, WI; Malinda Figg and husband Brett of Platteville, CO; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2005 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, NM with Rev. Jim Peabody officiating. Burial will follow in the Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob West, Powhatan Carter III, A.J. Killough, Bill West, Bob Addison, and Gerald Don Cortese. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Wertheim, F.B. Willis, John McMillan, Eddie Spitz, Buddy Cortese, and Nick Cortese. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, NM 88119; the First Baptist Church P.O. Box 287, Fort Sumner, NM 88119, or a charity of your choice. The family will be at 1512 Kingston Place, Clovis, NM. Visitation will be Sunday from 1pm to 6pm at the Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-6 pm.
