Armando Chavez-Jaquez, 89 of Fort Sumner, New Mexico passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 in Fort Sumner following an illness. He was born July 28, 1928 in Torreon, Coahula, Mexico the son of Amador Chavez Gutierrez and Margarita Jaquez Rivero. Armando married Mary G. Chavez on June 25, 1968 in Fort Sumner. He was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Anthony Parish in Fort Sumner. He made his home in Fort Sumner for many years where he worked as a ranch hand and later employed by Mitchell's Windmill. Together with his wife Mary G. “Tulles” Chavez, they owned and operated Mary Frances Cafe in Fort Sumner. He enjoyed playing Bingo, his pet dogs were a big part of his life and he liked watching his "Novelas". Armando is prededed in death by his parents, his wife Mary G. Chavez on October 5, 2008. Survivors include a daughter Mary Frances Sanchez and husband Jose of Fort Sumner, one sister Inez Chavez of Durango, Mexico, three grandsons Nikko Carroll, Mario Carroll and wife Raven, Estevan Chavez, and a niece raised as a granddaughter Lisa Ulibarri and husband Joel all of Fort Sumner, two great-grandsons Joshia Carroll and Kaden Carroll, two great-granddaughters Iris Collaso and Ryaah Saiz, a nephew raised as a son Robert Rafael Lopez and his wife Norma of Carlsbad, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cremation will take place, a graveside service will be held at 3:30 pm Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Anthony Cemetery in Fort Sumner with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating.
