Joan Gilbert, 74 of Clovis and formerly of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 in Snyder, Texas following an illness. She was born November 14, 1943 in Baltimore, MD to the home of Frank and Helen Angela (Schaech) Huber. Joan grew up in Baltimore, wher she attended and graduated from Patterson High School. Following graduation she attended cosmetology school. Joan worked as a cosmetologist in Baltimore, MD and Fort Sumner, NM for many years. She made her home in Clovis and was employed by Lowe's as a horticulturist for four years. When she became ill, she moved to Snyder, TX in 2016 to be near her family. Joan enjoyed playing pool, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Clovis. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James Thomas Gilbert, and brother Fred Huber. Survivors include two daughters Robin Newton of Snyder, TX and Sherri Joan Berry of Clovis, two brothers Albert Huber and Bud Huber both of Baltimore, five grandchildren Wayne Gilbert (Crystal) of Clovis, Jeffrey Minnick of Snyder, TX, Chelsea Hesson (Michial) of Odessa, TX, Colby Berry (Ana), and Myra Nelson all of Snyder, other survivors include five great-grandchildren Sean Gilbert, Cory Gilbert, Adylene Diaz, and Ciera Nicole Hesson, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM with Buddy Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Colby Berry, Howard Manasco, Bill Ski Maciejewski, Myra Nelson, Chelsea Hesson and Jerry Petree.
