Merleyn Kay Straight, 70 of Dilia, NM passed away in Las Vegas, NM on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 following an illness. She was born September 24, 1947 in Olean, New York the daughter of Kenneth Merle and Loraine (Appleby) Straight. She attended schools in Olean, NY. Merleyn worked as a truck driver, postal delivery driver, and cab driver in New York City, she later worked construction in Alaska for 14 years. Merelyn later moved to Oregon where she farmed for 12 years. She and Patricia enjoyed 10 years of travelling across the U.S. In 2010 while travelling through New Mexico she and Patricia found a "piece of heaven" in Dilia, NM. They purchased a small ranch where Merelyn enjoyed rock hounding, carved stone and jewelry, and spending many hours walking her pal (dog) Dory. Merleyn became ill in the summer of 2017. She moved to an apartment in Las Vegas to be near her medical care and many friends in the Las Vegas area. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Clayton John Straight and Arthur Gaylord Straight. Survivors include her ranch partner and long time companion Patricia Minor of Dilia, NM, a brother Steven James Straight of Olean, NY, a sister Kathryn Merle Martel, two cousins Lesley Abrams of Tucson, AZ, Linda Smith of New York and Florida, and her furry daughter, Dory.
