Celestina “Tina” Griego, age 58, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2017 at the Guadalupe County Hospital following an illness. Tina was born on November 26, 1959 in El Paso, TX to the home of Jose Alejandro and Irene Maria (Espinosa) Griego. She was reared and attended schools in El Paso, TX graduating from Riverside High School in 1978. Tina worked as a security guard, and as a communications specialist for the Vaughn Police Department, she also volunteered as an EMT for many years, and she was a lifeguard for the swimming pool in Vaughn, she also coached little league and was a substitute teacher for the Vaughn Schools. She worked as a clerk for the Municipal Judge in Santa Rosa for many years and she also served as the Municipal Judge in Vaughn. Tina was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Vaughn and was very faithful in praying the rosary every day. In her younger years she enjoyed playing softball. She loved doing volunteer work and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need; she loved family gatherings and was always picking on her in-laws. Tina loved spending times with her daughter and granddaughters. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ronald Griego, her great nephew Jaiyre and her god daughter Tennika Dodge. Survivors include her daughter Dayna Griego and companion Vicente Baca of Albuquerque, her granddaughters Alyssa Lopez and Jasmine Griego, her brothers and sisters Alejandro Steve Chavez and wife Julie of Albuquerque, Adela Sarabia and husband Alfredo of El Paso, TX, Michael Griego and wife Edna of El Paso, TX, Dina Martinez and companion Pat Cordova of Santa Rosa and Johnny Ray Griego and wife Matilda of Moriarty, her God Children Janice Ulibarri, Martin Griego and Angel Guerrero, her nieces Melissa Chavez, Genesis Stephens, Monique Griego, Danielle Griego, Michelle Griego, Irene Griego and Erica Guerrero, her nephews who will serve as her Honorary Pallbearers, Marc Chavez, Orlando Sarabia, Rudy Sarabia, Jerry Sarabia, Stephen Griego, Michael Griego, Moses Griego, Alex Encinias, Martin Griego, Christopher Campbell, Eduardo Guerrero and Ricardo Guerrero. Also surviving are numerous great nieces and nephews as well as a host of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place, a rosary will be recited at 10:30 am Friday, September 8, 2017 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Vaughn, NM. The funeral Mass will follow the rosary with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Father Christopher Bernabe will officiate.
