Angie Gerhardt-Apodaca, age 48, passed away peacefully at home in Puerto De Luna, NM while surrounded by her family on August 12, 2017. Angie was born to the home of Henry and Teodora Gerhardt on December 17, 1968. She graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1987 and went to work full time shortly after. She worked many years in the food service industry, primarily the Comet Restaurant in Santa Rosa where she took pride in making sure all her customers were happy. Angie began working side by side with her sister and brother in law Alice and Johnny Martinez at a young age. Angie cherished her many repeat customers who visited her at the Comet for years to come. When her sister Alice passed away after her own battle with Cancer, Angie continued to utilize the knowledge of the business she gained from her sister and helped Johnny keep things going in a positive direction. Ultimately Angie took a position with Guadalupe County in the Puerto De Luna Senior Center. She loved the fact that her job allowed her to stay close to home and stay involved in her community. She loved working with the senior citizens and all who visited and built strong bonds with them as well as her co-workers. Angie married her high school sweetheart Lawrence Apodaca on June 13, 1992. After making a home in Puerto de Luna, NM, they welcomed two sons: Nicholas and Joseph. Angie loved her parish of Nuestra Senora de Refugio in Puerto De Luna where she and Lawrence served as church mayordomos for several years and where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Society. Angie was always ready to help someone in need without hesitation. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her delicious meals with others. Prior to her illness, Angie was unstoppable. She was always busy and never rested until all her tasks were complete each day. Angie was a happy person, full of life and love for her family and friends. Her two sons were the light of her life and the reason for Angie’s drive and determination to live. Angie beat the odds and fought a hard battle but in the end she grew tired and succumbed to her illness. After a lifetime of caring for so many, in the end it was her husband Lawrence who provided 24 hour care to Angie right up until her last moment on earth. Angie is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Teodora Gerhardt and sisters Alice Martinez, Peggy Gerhardt and Nancy Gerhardt, and her nephew Joseph Gerhardt. Left to honor and remember her love are her husband Lawrence and sons Nicholas Apodaca and Joseph Apodaca, all of Puerto de Luna, NM, her brothers Joe Gerhardt (Marcella) and Frank Gerhardt (Patsy) both of Puerto de Luna, sisters Evelyn Rivera of Puerto De Luna and Betty Gerhardt of Sedona, Arizona, mother and father in law, Larry and Liz Apodaca, brother in law Sam Apodaca (Helen) and many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
