Stella Chavez, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 13, at the Guadalupe County Hospital. Stella was born on August 25, 1941 in Pintada, NM to the home of Manuel and Estanislada (Gonzales) Baca. She was reared and attended schools in Santa Rosa. Stella married Archie Chavez on August 18, 1962 in Santa Rosa. She worked at the TA Travel Center as a sales clerk for over 20 years and as a cook at the Campos Senior Center. She enjoyed quilting, spending time with her grandchildren, coloring and collection dolls. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Archie Chavez, her brother Eduardo Baca, her in-laws Marcelina Baca, Guillermo Chavez, Siria Lucero, Dan Lucero, Dora Baca, Eutemio Chavez and Marcella Baca. Survivors include her children, Joan Chavez and husband Ricky, Stanislaus Chavez and Jessica, Angela Gomez and husband Darrel all of Santa Rosa, her grandchildren, Nicole Barela and husband Lorenzo, Brian Chavez and wife Diondra, Darrel Gomez, Jr., Derrick Gomez and wife Maria, Natasha Chavez, Andrea Chavez and Isaac Herrera, her great grandchildren, Alex Lopez, Joslyn Barela, Josiah Barela, Haylee Maestas, Aubrianna Chavez, Rico Crosby, Amarissa Gomez, Derrick Gomez, Jr. and Layla Gutierrez. Also surviving are is her sister Celine Chavez and her brother Manual Baca, Jr, her brother in law Macedon Chavez and her sister in law Mary Lou Maestas and husband Tony as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Sunday, July 16, at 6:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 17, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will Brian Chavez, Darrel Gomez, Jr., Derrick Gomez, Lorenzo Barela, Alex Lopez and Bobby Baca. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be her great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM All services for Mrs. Chavez have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
