Margie Abeyta, 77 of Santa Rosa, NM passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis following an illness. Born Maria Angelina Margarita Abeyta on February 22, 1940 in Puerto De Luna to the home of Lucio and Arcelia (Flores) Abeyta. Margie as she was know to her many friends and family grew up in Puerto De Luna. She attended school in P.D.L. until the 8th grade and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1958. Margie was reared by her maternal grandparents, Cipriano and Paublita Flores from the age of 6 until their deaths. Following graduation from High School Margie worked at Guadalupe County Hospital. She worked and trained alongside the Dominican Sisters and hospital administrator Benito Via, she later worked as a surgical assistant for Dr. Fikany, Dr. Galvin, and Dr. Martin. Her last nursing employment was with Dr. Hunt as an admitting nurse. Margie later worked for Stucky's west of Santa Rosa, and for the Santa Rosa SURE House, before she was named as the Director of Campos Senior Citizens Center by then mayor Sonny Chavez. Her duties as director included arranging pool tournaments, quilting groups, Senior bingo, dances, and arranged trips to visit other senior citizen centers and arranged many trips to Laughlin and Las Vegas, NV, Grand Canyon, AZ and many places within New Mexico. She served as Director for 17 years. Margie never married or had children but she was like a mother figure to many of her nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She spent many hours on the phone visiting with many of her friends and relatives. She loved having visitors at her home and listening to all the "local news". Margie is preceded in death by her parents Lucio and Arcelia "Chela" Abeyta, her paternal grandparents Espiridion and Isabel Abeyta and her maternal grandparents Cipriano and Paublita Flores, a brother Jose Lucio "Chio" Abeyta, two sisters Josie Pacheco, and Mary Rose Abeyta, uncles Benny Flores, Victor Flores, Honorato Flores, Alberto Flores, aunts Amalia Dodge, Adela Espinosa, Beatrice Salazar, and Leontina Chavez. Margie is survived by two sisters, Frances Lopez of Anton Chico and Helen Abeyta of Santa Rosa, one brother Herman Abeyta of Santa Rosa, one uncle Filomeno Flores and his wife Erlinda of Puerto De Luna, NM, 12 nieces and nephews, Berna Abeyta-Velasquez, Julie Abeyta, Paul Pacheco, Molly Richardson-Pacheco, Sylvia Marquez, Donna Rivera, Shawn Lopez, Raul Lopez, Paublita Baca, Joseph Esquibel, Gabriel Esquibel, and a nephew she helped raise, Isaac Abeyta, also surviving are her Baptismal God children Amanda Patron, Eileen Moncayo, Raul Lopez, her Confirmation God children, Barbara Flores Chavez, Rebecca Lopez, Monica Flores Lopez, and Anna Apodaca Aragon, along with a host of loving primos, relatives and many good friends and relatives. Visitation hours will be Tuesday from 1-5pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the rosary and Mass at the church. A rosary will be recited at 6pm Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Nuestra Senora De Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from the church with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Pallbearers will include Dan Flores, Nicky Flores, Isaac Abeyta, Joseph Esquibel, Paul Pacheco, Pee Wee Garcia, Daniel Ortiz, and Raul Lopez. Honorary bearers include Pete and Lori Campos, Alfredo "Sonny" Chavez Jr., Silver and Rosalie Chavez, and Dolores Ortega and all her family and friends. Cremation will follow the services. Interment of her cremains will be with her maternal grandparents at Nuestra Senora De Refugio Cemetery in Puerto De Luna. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S.
