Helen (Valdez) Artz, 65 of Clovis, NM passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Clovis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was born in Fort Sumner on September 26, 1951 to Marcial Valdez and Edemia Valdez. She made her home in Utah for 25 years and moved to Clovis in 2012. Helen started her own business as a house keeper for several years. She loved walking, camping, hanging around with family and friends and she loved to dance. Helen is preceded in death by her dad Marcial Valdez Jr., a daughter Marcia Crosby, a sister Gloria Ortiz and her paternal grandparents Marcial Sr. and Maria Agatha Valdez. Survivors include two sons, Bart Artz (Jessica) of Syracuse, UT and Marcial Artz (Wendy) of Mountain Green, UT, her mother Edemia Valdez of Clovis, NM. Seven sisters Margaret Garcia (Joe) of Borger, TX, Mary Shafer (Dennis), Estella Turner, Esperanza Gallegos (Richard Jr.), Marietta Valdez, all of Clovis, Sylvia Valdez of Houston, TX and Yvonne Gonzales of Albuquerque, one brother Marshall Valdez of Clovis, along with a host of nieces and nephews, 9 grandkids, and 3 great grandkids. Visitation hours will be Thursday from 1pm to 6pm at the Chavez Funeral Home and Friday from 9am to 10am at the church. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, March 24, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Bart Artz, Marcial Artz, Esperanza Gallegos, Mary Shafer, Marshall Valdez, and Nathaniel Gonzales. Helen's family will gather at the home of Esperanza Gallegos, 1608 Howard, Clovis, New Mexico.
