Joe Matias Chacon II, 50 of Santa Rosa, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque following a sudden illness. Joe was born December 11, 1966 in Santa Rosa to the home of Jose Matias and Dolores "Lola" (Lopez) Chacon. Joe grew up in Santa Rosa and attended Santa Rosa Schools. He worked as a handyman and laborer. Joe was a talented musician and guitarist. He enjoyed creating arts and craft projects. Joe was a very giving person, he was always helping his friends with projects and never expecting anything in return. He loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with them. Joe is preceded in death by a son Jaren Joseph Chacon on October 6, 1994, his parents Jose Matias and Lola Chacon, maternal grandparents Miguel and Francisca Lopez, and paternal grandparents Gabriel and Olegaria Chacon. He is survived by a daughter Jerrika Maestas, two granddaughters Illiana LeDoux and Izabela Maestas all of Cimarron, NM. His girlfriend Kathy "Dodie" Evans of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are three siblings, Richard "Topo" Lopez and wife Linda of San Diego, CA, Carmella Bradley of Albuquerque, and Priscilla Chavez of Santa Rosa along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A memorial services will be held at 10am Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Church of Christ, Third and Pecos Street, Santa Rosa, NM with Mr. Keith Ross officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Honorary bearers will be Drew Quintana, Jerry Chavez, Gene Chacon II, Leroy Apodaca, Phillip Campos, Nabor Selgado, Orlando Valverde, and all his nieces and nephews.
