Kathleen Ann Heckathorn 71, of Fort Sumner, NM passed away at 2am Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Bee Hive of Portales following an illness. She was born September 9, 1945 in Houston, Texas to the home of Wendelin Alfred Meister and the former Lottie Jean Airhart. She grew up in Houston where she attended Holy Name Catholic Elementary School, and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. Kathleen married Raymond Heckathorn in Humble, Texas on January 30, 1970. She worked as a telephone operator for AT&T Telephone Company for 15 years. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Las Cruces, NM. Kathleen and Raymond retired to Fort Sumner in August 2005. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and spending time with her grandkids. Kathleen is preceded in death by her father Wendy Meister in 2000, her mother Lottie Jean Meister in 2008, and her husband Raymond Heckathorn in 2009. Survivors include three daughters Amanda Kenyon and husband Rusty of Fort Sumner, Kim Heckathorn of Fort Sumner, Nicole Heckathorn of Las Cruces, NM, one sister Alice Mikulenka-Hardy and husband Carl of Bronson, TX, a brother Gene Meister and wife Lujuan of Spring, Texas along with three grandchildren Katelynn Kenyon and Madison Kenyon of Fort Sumner and Donetto Heckathorn-Chavez of Las Cruces.
