Mario Maestas

Mario Fernando Maestas, 20, passed away on February 19, 2017 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Mario was born on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Antoinette Maestas. He was reared in Anton Chico and attended schools in Anton Chico and Santa Rosa graduating from Santa Rosa High School in 2015. Mario was currently working in the Forestry Division in Las Vegas, NM. He was a member of San Jose Parish in Anton Chico. Mario loved horses and was always happy when he was around them; he loved hanging out with his friends, bailing hay with David Cordova, fishing at Fish Lake, Utah and most of all playing and being with his nieces. He is preceded in death by his Uncle Mario Castillo, his great grandparents Emilio and May Gius and Juan and Estelita Maestas. Survivors include his mother Antoinette Maestas and Isaac Chavez of Anton Chico, his sister and second mother Shanika Lucero and husband Kevin of Dilia, his nieces Ave Rose Lucero and Harper Lucero, grandfather and second father Juanito Maestas of Anton Chico and his grandmother Margaret Fernandez and husband Joe of Pueblo, CO as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and a host of friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial rosary will be held on Friday, February 24, at 6:00 PM from San Jose Church in Anton Chico. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 25, at 11:00 AM also from San Jose Church with Father Antonio Mondragon officiating. Burial of cremains will be at the San Jose Cemetery in Anton Chico. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Marcos Perea, Amadeo Maestas, Kenny Rupert, Andrew Chavez, Kenneth Finnestad, Alcario Nieto, Nicholas Maestas, Vicente Cordova, Remi Cordova, James Urioste, Emiliano Perea and Johnny Ray Cordova.
