Jessie V. Anderson, 91 went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Landmark Assisted Living in Hobbs, NM following an illness. She was born November 2, 1925 in Unionville, MO to the home of Midge and Minnie Pickett. The family moved to Las Vegas, NM to homestead a farm. Jessie graduated from Las Vegas High School. Soon after she joined her sisters in San Diego, CA where she worked at the Navy Ship Yards during the war. Upon returning to Las Vegas she worked as a waitress until landing her livelong career as a 26 year employee of Mountain Bell Telephone Company. That is where she met and married her husband Joe Anderson on July 5, 1957. They shared 47 years in marriage as well as a love for gardening, canning, raising rabbits, and entertaining friends and family in their home in Las Vegas. Jessie loved people and loved to bake. She took that love with her to Fort Sumner, NM after retirement. She and Joe farmed in the Fort Sumner valley. Jessie is preceded in death by her husband Joe Anderson in 2004, her parents, three brothers Lawrence Pickett, Lester Pickett, and Leo Pickett, twin sisters Lois Crawford, and Louise Winter. She is survived by three siblings, brothers Walter Pickett of Los Alamos, and Clyde Pickett (Jackie) of Las Vegas, NM, a sister Shirley Payne (Jim) of Deming, NM, sisters in law Frances Nahlovsky and Blanche Boyd of Fort Sumner, Wanda Mechnig of Porum, OK, and a brother in law Doug Anderson of Gaston, IN along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours will be Friday from 1pm to 6pm and Saturday from 10am until service time. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, February 18, 2017 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Sumner, NM. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery with Anna Teeter-Gentile officiating. Pallbearers will include Dennis Luce, Sam Fech, Alan Batts, Carl Boyd, Glen Boyd, Pete Boyd, Gary Shiflet, and Troy Pickett. Honorary bearers will be all her family and friends.
