Mrs. Jewel Perez, 88 of Encino, New Mexico passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Wheatfields Senior Living Community in Clovis. She was born March 18, 1928 in Daysboro, Wolfe County, Kentucky to the home of William and Grace (Collinsworth) Spencer. She attended school in Kentucky before moving to Floyd, NM where she attended high school. Jewel married Ernest Perez in March 1946. They made their home on the ranch near Encino for many years where she and Ernest operated a Rambouilette sheep and Registered Hereford cattle ranch. Jewel was a member of the Vaughn Extension Club, a longtime 4-H Leader, a member of NM Wool Growers Association, and Cattle Growers Association. She was a great seamstress and also enjoyed oil painting, and gardening. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino. Jewel is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest Perez in 2011, a daughter Kathrin Dinwiddie, and five sisters Maxine, Betty, Ailene, Ruth, and Bobbie. Survivors include a daughter Diana Gallegos and husband Jude of Vaughn, three sons Michael Perez and wife Connie of Nara Visa, NM, Jeffery Perez of Albuquerque, and Chris Perez and wife Leslie of Encino, and Johnny (Gina) Jaurequiberry whom they raised as a son. Also surviving is one sister Billie Reagan and husband Wilburn of Lubbock, Texas along with 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the rosary and funeral Mass. A rosary will be recited at 7pm Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino, NM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Monday, October 3, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating. Burial will follow at Encino Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will include grandsons Hollis Dinwiddie, Matthew Gallegos, Dillon Perez, Kyle Perez, Drew Perez, and Johnny Jaurequiberry. Honorary bearers will be all her great-grandchildren.
