Rita L. Baca, 88 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Rita Lopez Baca was born June 14, 1928 in Los Ojitos, NM to the home of Adolfo and Regina Lopez. She grew up on the Best Ranch north of Lake Sumner. Rita was a homemaker and a longtime faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. She is preceded in death by her husbands Adan Baca and Apolonio Lopez, two sisters Lorraine Pacheco and Deluvinia Garcia-Lopez. Rita is survived by two sons Fred Lopez and wife Sara of Rio Rancho, and Gabriel Baca of Fort Sumner, three brothers Jose Lopez of Belen, Sam Lopez of Santa Rosa, Boni Lopez of Albuquerque, three sisters Celia Martinez of Fort Sumner, Lucy Gonzales of Albuquerque, and Lydia Moreno of Lubbock, two grandchildren Mark Lopez and Cheryl Trujillo both of Rio Rancho, five great-grandchildren Steven Alvarez, Caleb Granillo, Adrian Lopez, Anthony Lopez, and Elijah Trujillo, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 1pm to 6pm Wednesday at the funeral home and 9am to 10am Thursday, at the church. A rosary followed by the funeral Mass will be held at 10am Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating. Pallbearers will include Andy Martinez, Randy Martinez, Sandy Martinez, Boni Lopez, Matthew Lopez, and Leroy Segura. Honorary bearers will include Mark Lopez, Caleb Granillo, Steven Alvarez, Simon Segura, Andrew Martinez, Kevin Martinez, Joe Lopez, and Sam Lopez.
