Helen Romero Madrid

February 19, 1921 — December 12, 2015

Our beautiful Mama, Helen (Elena) R. Madrid was born on February 19, 1921. She was married to the late Toribio C. Madrid. She was the daughter of Epifiano and Petra Romero. Helen was a long life resident of Santa Rosa. She was an avid and talented seamstress for many years. Helen was a member of St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church; Alter Society, Sacred Hearts and Hijas de Maria. She passed away peacefully at the home of one of her daughter’s in Rio Rancho, New Mexico on Saturday December 12, 2015. She was surrounded and cared for by all of her children whom she loved very much. We were so blessed to have had our mother in our lives. She will always be a ray of sunshine and will forever be in our hearts. We loved her sense of humor, her amazing laughter, her smile and most importantly-her kind and gentle heart. The heavens have truly opened up to receive an angel. To absent from the body is to be in the presence of God. You are at rest and peace in the warmth of Jesus our Lord. What joy for our beautiful mother, no pain, no suffering. Now she may rejoice in heaven with our father. We will close our eyes and remember how much she loved us. Helen is now one of the shining stars that we will see in the star-stricken sky at night, only hers will shine a bit brighter because she lived a happy life and was loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Toribio C. Madrid. Her parents, Epifiano and Petra Romero. Sons, Daniel, Roberto Daniel, Edwardo (Eddie), son-in-law, Ray Arriola, and great grandson, Baby Martin Madrid. Brothers; Eligio Romero, Amador Romero, Estevan Romero, Domiciano (Dome) Romero, and Rafael Sena. Sisters; Conrada Baca and Rose Chavez. She is survived by her children, Lucy Medina and husband Phil, Charley Madrid and wife Alice, Margie Sisneros and husband Tomas, Ana Gabaldon and husband Stan, Maggie Chavez and husband Rick, Mary Lou Arriola, Frances Madrid, Christine Madrid, and Andrew Madrid. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Two sisters, Elisa Gebhardt and Maggie Moncayo, and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation hours will be Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 6pm Wednesday, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10am Thursday, December 17, at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating.
