Celso Aragon

November 16, 1934 — May 23, 2015

Jose Celso Aragon, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2015 at the home of his daughter following an illness. Celso as he was affectionately known was born on November 16, 1934 in Puerto de Luna, NM to the home of Fernando and Carolina (Moncayo) Aragon. He was reared and attended schools in Puerto de Luna and Santa Rosa. Celso served in the United State Marines Corps in the First Marine Division as a Med Specialist from 1953 through 1957. He received the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged Celso returned to Santa Rosa and started his family. He worked as carpenter, heavy equipment operator, and jailer and also worked for the Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools. Celso would tell everyone that he was “jack of all trades and a master of none”. Celso was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Parish, the VFW and a longtime faithful member of Los Hermanos Jesus de Nazareno Penitentes. He enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, helping anyone that was in need and driving his golf cart every morning to have coffee with his buddies. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Jordan Aragon, his grandchildren Luciano Aragon and Joshua Allen Harrison, his brothers and sister, Liberato Aragon, Vidal Aragon, Juan Aragon and Erlinda Quintana, his son in law Mark Ortega and his ex-wife Erlinda Chavez. Survivors include his children, Eric Aragon and wife Mary Alice of Santa Rosa, Nancy Whinery and husband James of Santa Rosa, Phil Aragon and wife Danielle Gold of Puerto de Luna, Olivia Aragon and James Lucero of Santa Rosa, Jose C. Aragon Jr, of Santa Rosa, Maria Ortega of Santa Rosa, April Aragon and Patty Jones of Baltimore, MD, his step children Willie Chavez of Silver City and Crystal Romero and husband Dan of Puerto De Luna, and his significant other for over 20 years Rose Martinez along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28, at 10:00 also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at El Calvario Cemetery in Puerto De Luna. Serving as Pallbearers will be Eric Aragon, Jr., Lee Ray Harrison, Jacob Salas, Crystal Romero, Jordan Aragon, Chris Aragon, Brandon Aragon and Juanita Ortega. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Rodney Gutierrez, Bobby Trujillo, Jose Flores, Ray Tapia, Richard Aragon and Ray Pacheco.
