Kathleen Russell Blythe, 100, passed from this life on May 3, 2015, in El Paso, Texas. She was born October 31, 1914, in Poteet, Texas to Willis C. and Brady (Ray) Russell. Kathleen graduated from Harlendale High School, San Antonio, Texas in 1933. She moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she met Jay Blythe. They were married on July 2, 1938 and made their home in Corpus Christi. This marriage was blessed with two sons. In 1943, with boys age 2 and 6 weeks, Jay and Kathleen moved to New Mexico to a ranch on the Pecos River between Roswell and Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Kathleen made the adjustment from city life to an isolated ranch that lacked electricity and running water. The family moved to the Fort Sumner valley in 1953 where they were engaged in farming until 1978. Kathleen worked for a time as school secretary for the Fort Sumner School District. Upon retirement, Jay and Kathleen moved to Leakey, TX and in 1988 to El Paso, Texas. Kathleen was preceded in death by Jay her loving husband of 60 years, her parents, and nine siblings. She is survived by two sons, Tom (Sue) of Kerrville, Texas, Robert (Karlon) of Loveland, Colorado, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2015, 11:00 AM at Restlawn Memorial Park, El Paso, TX under the direction of Martin Funeral Home West, El Paso, TX.
