Dan Lucero

Daniel Joe Lucero, age 74, passed away on August 26, 2014 at his home in Santa Rosa following an illness. Dan was born on October 23, 1939 in Pintada, NM to the home of Ernestino and Vicenta (Paiz) Lucero. He was reared in Pintada and Puerto De Luna. He married Siria Chavez on April 24, 1980 in Santa Rosa. Dan worked road construction for many years and also worked at the Santa Rosa Dam when it was being built. Dan worked as a custodian for the Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools for 18 years and was also in the Grandparent program at the Santa Rosa Elementary School. Dan was a faithful parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He enjoyed having his daily coffee at the various restaurants in town with his friends. Dan is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Siria in 2009. Survivors include his children, Frank Chavez and wife Annette of Albuquerque, Andy Chavez and wife Kenna of Sidney, Ohio, Eddie Chavez of Santa Rosa, Debbie Gallegos and husband Mark of Santa Rosa and Vince Lucero and wife Michelle of Santa Rosa. Also surviving is his sister Ernestine Gutierrez and husband Gene of Santa Rosa, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place and Rosary services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 7:00 PM from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 30 at 10:00 AM from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa with Father Thomas Kayammakal officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be David Gallegos, Daniel Gallegos, Marty Chavez, Macedonio Chavez, Stanley Chavez, Fred Saiz, Leroy Gutierrez, Gene Gutierrez, Jr., Sean Chavez and the rest of Dan's grandchildren and great grandchildren All services for Mr. Lucero have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
