Julia Martinez, 91 of Encino, NM passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 with her family at her bedside. She was born December 20, 1922 in Derramadero, NM to the home of Luis B. and Aurelia (Velasquez) Marez. She grew up in Derramadero and attended schools in Encino. She was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino, NM. She enjoyed sewing quilts, baking and gardening. Julia is preceded in death by her husband Roman Martinez in 1991, her parents, a granddaughter Yvonne Aragon and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by thirteen sons and daughters, Antonio Apodaca and wife Linda of Los Lunas, Orlando Velasquez and wife Gabby of Portales, Connie Saiz and husband Frank of Clovis, Guillermo Marez and wife Corrine of Albuquerque, Elena Martinez of Encino, Rosa Garcia and husband Raymond of Gallup, Ray Martinez and wife Corinne of Albuquerque, Martha Sanchez and husband Elias of Encino, Caroline Gress and husband Gerald of Roswell, Joe Martinez and wife Terri of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, Lucy Madril and husband Johnny of Hobbs, Elizardo Herrera of Albuquerque, Macy Aragon of Albuquerque, one sister Lala Apodaca and a sister-in-law Josephine Marez of Clovis. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino beginning at 6pm Monday, August 18, 2014 followed by a rosary at 7pm. Mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from the church with burial following at the Encino Catholic Cemetery with Father Paul Nkumbi and Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Pallbearers will be Ralph Garcia, Ronnie Marez, Manual Montoya, Jacob Marez, Raymundo Apodaca, and Bobby Marez. Honorary bearers will be all her grandchldren and Holly Perez.
