Benito Via, age 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Benito was born on July 17, 1937 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Benito and Eliza Lopez Via. He was reared and attended schools in Santa Rosa. Benito married Angelina Delgado on February 8, 1958 in Santa Rosa, NM. Benito and his family lived In Borger, TX, San Jon, Belen, Lovington, Deming, and Portales and finally made their home in Santa Rosa. He worked for the Santa Rosa News, The Borger Herald, he owned and operated a Print Shop, he worked as a Hospital Administrator, and he worked as an Office Manager for Hamilton Construction, The New Mexico State Parks and the Corp of Engineers. Benito was a Parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5146 where he served as Grand Knight, District Deputy and was currently serving as Financial Secretary and was also a 4th Degree Knight. He also was a member of the Lions Club and Jaycees. Benito loved to take pictures and work on his garden and loved taking care of activities with the Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Dolores Via and his brother Arturo Via. Survivors include his wife Angelina of the family home in Santa Rosa, his daughters Debbie Poteet of Roanoke, TX, Savanah Via of Santa Rosa, his sons, Dennis Via and wife Jackie of Albuquerque, David Via and wife Patti of Santa Rosa, Daniel Via and wife Bridget of Albuquerque, Dominic Via and wife Holly of South Lake, TX and Donald Via and wife Melissa of Albuquerque. Also surviving are his sisters, Esther Thompson, Adela Via and Gloria Reed, along with 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, at 10:30 AM. Mass of Christian will follow the rosary with Monsignor Anthony Bolman officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Jeremy Poteet, Brandon Via, Silver Chavez, Charles Moncayo, Nathan Via, Gary Cordova, Duncan Via and Robbie Satriana. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Members of Gabriel J. Coury Council 5146 of the Knights of Columbus, his many Compadres and his grandchildren.
