Mary Frances Via

Mary F. Via, age 82, passed away on April 23, 2014 in Santa Fe following an illness. Mary was born on June 1, 1931 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Jose Maria and Josefita (Casaus) Gonzalez. She was reared and attended schools in Borica and Santa Rosa graduating from Santa Rosa High School. She married Arturo Via in 1962 In Santa Rosa. Mary worked for the O.K. Clothiers for many years then went to work for Laute and Florence Lucero at the Town and Country for over 40 years. She was a Parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of Las Hijas de Maria. Mary loved music and would often compose songs of her own, she also loved to compose poems and even had one published, she enjoyed drawing and loved to cook for her family during the holidays. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ernestine Ortega and her brother in law Jim Ortega. Survivors include her brother George Gonzales and wife Deann of Santa Rosa, her sister Helen Gonzales of Santa Rosa, her sons, Martin Gonzales and wife Anita, Herman Gonzales and her daughter Mary Dell Apodaca and husband Leroy all of Santa Rosa. Also surviving is a close cousin Gloria Chavez of Peralta, several grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 AM from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Thomas Kayammakal officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Martin Gonzales, Herman Gonzales, Arthur Gonzales, Brian Chavez, Ryan Gonzales and Glenn Gonzales.
