Dolores “Lola” Chacon, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2014 at the Guadalupe County Hospital following an illness. Lola as she was affectionately known was born on January 6, 1930 in El Valle, NM to the home of Miguel and Francisca (Benavidez) Lopez. She was reared in Newkirk and attended Santa Rosa Schools graduating in 1949. Lola Married Jose Matias Chacon on November 28, 1964. Lola was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish and Las Hijas de Maria. She was a caretaker, taking care of many children. She loved to read, listen to music, dance, she was a great cook and her specialty was baking bread. Lola’s humble heart and gentle spirit taught us how to live, how to laugh and now how to die with dignity. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jose Matias Chacon, her grandsons Jaren Joseph Chacon and Leo Chavez, Jr., brothers and sisters, Florencia Lopez, Aurora Elevario, Adela Sena, Maria Gonzales, Hilario Lopez, Herculano Lopez, Dorothy Zamora, Santos Lopez, Frank Lopez, Miguel Lopez, Benigno Lopez and Jose D. Lopez. Survivors include her children, Richard “Topo” Lopez and wife Linda of San Diego, CA, Carmella Bradley of Albuquerque, Jose Matias Chacon, Jr. of Santa Rosa, Priscilla Chavez and husband Michael of Santa Rosa, her grandchildren Gabriel Chavez and wife Felicia, Tiana Lopez, Ricardo Lopez II and wife Rebecca, Andre Gilbert Lopez, Reyna Chavez, Daniel Bradley, Jerrika Maestas, Amber Chavez, Ashley Chavez and Dylan Bradley, her great grandchildren, Mathew Chavez, Jared Chavez, Giovanni Chavez, Matthias Sena, Ricardo David Lopez III, Isaac Lopez, Jacob Lopez and Illiana Ledoux and one more on the way. Also surviving are her brothers and sister in Law, Lorenzo Sena, Fernando Chacon and Gloria Lopez, special nieces and nephews Anna Mae Coca, Janna Lopez and Bobby Lopez. Rosary services will be held on Friday, March 7, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Thomas Kayammakal officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
