Sandra Lee Ulibarri, 66 a lifelong resident of Vaughn, NM passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Guadalupe County Hospital in Santa Rosa following an illness. Sandra was born July 13, 1947 to the home of Don and Mary Jane (Panebouef) Romero. She grew up in Vaughn and graduated from Vaughn High School in 1965. Sandra married Pete Ulibarri on April 1, 1966. They operated restaurants and cafe's in Vaughn for many years including the Club Cafe, Americano Cafe, and the Truck Stop. Sandra and Pete currently owned and operated Pedro's Burritos in Vaughn. Sandra was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vaughn, she enjoyed reading, watching her soap operas, and loved to cook. She volunteered many years preparing and serving funeral meals. Sandra was also active in Gaudalupe County politics. She was a lifelong Democrat. Sandra served on the Guadalupe County Hospital Board for several years, and 14 years as a member of the Vaughn School Board. According to her family her greatest joy was being with her husband, children, grandchildren, and family. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, an aunt Emma Panebouef in 2012, and her son-in-law Andres Nieto in 2006. Survivors include her husband Pete Ulibarri of Vaughn, NM, a daughter Tara Nieto of Santa Rosa, NM, two sons Peter Ulibarri and his wife Doreen of Rio Rancho, NM and Albert Ulibarri and Nicole Lopez of Vaughn, NM. Also surviving are three grandchildren Matthew, Damien, and Gabriel Ulibarri, a sister Yvonne Hindi and her husband Nazim of Duran, NM and a brother Charles Panebouef of Vaughn along with other family and many friends. A rosary will be recited at 6pm Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vaughn, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 10am Friday, February 28, 2014 with Father Paul Nkumbi officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Vaughn, NM. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Matthew Ulibarri, Damien Ulibarri, and Gabriel Ulibarri. Honorary bearers will be Linda Montoya and Rebecca Montoya.
