Services for Flossie Pollard, 89, of Fort Sumner, New Mexico will be held at 10:00 am Friday, January 17, 2014 from The First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, Rev. Mike Stahl will officiate. Burial will follow at the Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, NM. Pallbearers will include Bob West, Robert Pennington, Randel Mansell, Mike West, Bob Addison, and David Bailey Jr. Honorary bearers will be her great-nephews Scott and Greg Pennington, and all her many friends. Visitation hours will be Thursday from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Pollard passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at her home. Flossie was born October 6, 1924 in Fort Sumner to the home of Emmitt Lee Pennington and the former Icy Bailey. She grew up in Fort Sumner where she attended school. She graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1944. Flossie married Richard F. Pollard on June 7, 1946 in Roswell, New Mexico. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner, where she served on the Harvest Festival Committee, a long time member of the Fort Sumner Women's Club, Rebekah's, and for many years was the driving force behind the Fort Sumner Community Calender, and a member of the Fort Sumner High School Ex-Student's Association. Flossie is preceded in death by her husband Richard F. Pollard in 1992, an infant son Lee Fouchee Pollard in 1946, her parents, a brother Luther Pennington, and a niece, Melody Pennington. Flossie is survived by two daughters Katharine Pollard of Fort Sumner and Diana Pollard of Santa Fe, NM, her sister-in-law Lavenia Pennington of Fort Sumner, a nephew Robert Pennington and wife Cindy of Fort Sumner, two nieces Barbara Corbett of New York and Belinda Pennington Storlie of Washington, also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other relatives and cousins including Geraldine Phillips and her husband Franklin of Amarillo, TX. Flossie was cared for in her home for the past year by Connie Mobley. The family requests memorial contributions in Flossie's memory to First United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 410, Fort Sumner, NM 88119 or Fort Sumner Cemetery Assn. P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, NM 88119. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
