STEPHEN EDSON WILSON died on January 5, 2014 in San Diego, CA with his family by his side following an extended illness. He was born on November 10, 1953 in Angola, Indiana. He moved to New Mexico in 1980 where he met and married his wife Toni on December 24, 1986 in Tucumcari. Steve had been in the construction business since 1980, first working for Broce Construction in Tucumcari. For the past 10 years he had been the Regional Safety Manager of Southern California for Schimmick Construction. Steve loved his job and was well respected in the construction and safety industry. Steve loved music, playing his guitar and reading, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. He spent the last year enjoying an amazing journey of all that life has to offer and his final days were spent surrounded by his wife and children. Steve’s life would seem too short to many, but those who have been touched by him understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His wonderful laugh, sense of humour and musical talent brought so much joy to everyone who knew him. Steve gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Toni Owen Wilson of Huntington Beach CA, daughters Taylor Wilson, Corina Wilson and her fiancée David Whatley, all of Albuquerque NM, son Travis Wilson of Visilia CA, and his mother-in-law Ann Owen Street of Chula Vista CA. Other survivors include a brother, Robert (Janis) Wilson, sisters Barbara (BJ) Steele and Carla (Curtis) Berndt, all of Indiana. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Dean and Margaret Wilson, brothers Richard Wilson and David Garl Wilson, and his father-in-law Harold Owen. Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tucumcari NM. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Miller and the Rev. Fred Caton officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday prior to the service. Following the burial at the Tucumcari Municipal Park Cemetery, a time of fellowship and remembrance will be held at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church. The family invites all of their friends and neighbors to join them at this time.
