Jose Hipolito Lopez, age 85, of Santa Rosa, NM passed away December 15, 2013 at Rust Presbyterian Hospital in Rio Rancho, NM following an illness. Hipolito was born on September 12, 1928 in San Ignacio, NM to the home of Francisco and Miquelita (Segura) Lopez. He made his home in Santa Rosa in the early 1950’s. Hipolito worked at a meat packing plant, for the Railroad, as a cowboy in various Guadalupe County ranches, at the Silver Moon Restaurant and McDonalds. He was a "jack of all trades" and loved to restore and recycle any item he found. He also loved working around his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gregorio Lopez, his sisters Maria Acension Garcia, Rita Abeyta and Andrea Chavez. Survivors include a sister Lucinda Lopez, two brothers Ventura Lopez and Ramon Lopez all of Santa Rosa along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 11am to 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 am Friday, December 20, 2013 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church followed by the Funeral Mass. Father Thomas Kayammakal will officiate, burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gregg Lopez Jr., Jake Lopez, Manuel Lopez, Wilson Lopez, Nick Romero, Andrew Martinez, Lupe Lopez, Ryan Martinez, Joe Abeyta, David Abeyta, and Robert Martinez. Honorary bearers will be Randy Lopez, Adan Via, Dwayne via, Derek Toohey, Ruben Diaz, Jacob Diaz, and Troy Lopez.
