Family and friends are invited to a reception for Millie Kussman at her home,(716 N. 7th Street) at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 21, 2013. Mildred "Millie" Kussman, 84 was born September 25, 1929 in Owensmouth, California to the home of Duel Herman Shirley and the former Olland Inez Gauldin. She passed away passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 at her home following an illness. Millie was reared in Southern California where her family owned and operated gas stations. Millie graduated from Hollywood High School. She has made her home in Fort Sumner for many years. She was a longtime member and volunteer at Fort Sumner Citizens Center. She volunteered her time with the arts and crafts, especially the ceramics. She attended the L. D. S. Church in Fort Sumner. Millie is preceded in death by her parents Duel H. and Olland Inez Shirley, a daughter Jennie Lynn Sherwin in 2007, two brothers Glen Robert Shirley in 1981 and Edward Henry Shirley in 2000. Survivors include two sons Daniel Jacks of Rincon and Fort Sumner, and Tommy Joe Jacks of Fort Sumner. Also surviving is Melinda D'Alavara and her husband John of Melrose, NM; a sister Sue O'Dell of Orange Vale, California, two grandsons Daniel Jacks Jr., and Anthony Jacks both of California. Other survivors include nine great-grandchildren, Sierra Jacks, Cameron Jacks, Angelus Jacks, Raven Jo Jacks, Brent Jacks, Hannah Jacks, Zacharya Jacks, Brittany Levario and Josh Levario along with many friends.
