Maximilliano Segura Gonzales, 90 of Melrose, NM died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at his home following an illness. Max was born July 13, 1923 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Rumaldo and Juanita (Segura) Gonzales. He was reared and attended school in Fort Sumner. Max married Maclovia Chavez in Tucumcari, NM in 1944. Max worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years as a section hand. He worked throughout the state. He was a member of railroad Maintenance of Way Engineers Union. Max was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Clovis and St. Katherine’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Max is preceded in death by his wife Maclovia Gonzales in 1992, a son Dale Chavez in 2013, an infant daughter Maria Gonzales, grandson Roy Allen Ward, a son in law Charles "Pepper" Landry, six brothers Julian, Pablo, Frank, Daniel, Ismael, and Rumaldo Gonzales, two sisters Veneranda Lovato, and Aurora Lopez. Survivors include five sons, Robert C. Gonzales of Anchorage, AK, George C. Gonzales of Hale Center, TX, Frank C. Gonzales of Sunray, TX, Max Joseph Gonzales of Melrose, Max Adam Gonzales of Clovis, six daughters Juanita Landry of Boston, MA, Maxine Martinez and husband Richard of Clovis, Lucy Gonzales of Colorado, Mary Ann (Monte Nutter) Gonzales of Melrose, Annabel Gonzales of Melrose, Evangalista Gonzales of Melrose, one brother Rumaldo S. Gonzales and his wife Nattie of Clovis. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass will be celebrated from the church at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 11, 2013 with Father Paul Nkumbi officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Gonzales, George Gonzales, Joseph Gonzales, Adam Gonzales, Michael Gonzales, and Craig Ashley. Honorary bearers will include Monte Nutter, Bryan Niece, Steve Boyd, Larry Harris Jr., Gentiva Hospice Staff, the staff at UMC in Lubbock, Dr. Alan Haynes, and Dr. Fred Hardwick along with all his family and friends.
