Longtime Santa Rosa resident, Jose D. Lopez, age 75, passed away peacefully October 17, 2013 in Las Vegas, NM, his daughters were at his side. Jose was born October 23, 1937 in El Valle, NM to the home of Miguel and Francisca (Benavidez) Lopez. He was reared and attended schools in Newkirk. Jose served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class from 1956 through 1957. He married Isabel Salas on October 18, 1961 in Santa Rosa. Jose worked construction and for several gas stations in Santa Rosa. He loved to read and watch over his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Isabel, his brothers and sisters, Florencia Lopez, Aurora Elevario, Adela Sena, Maria Gonalez, Dorothy Zamora, Hilario Lopez, Herculano Lopez, Santos Lopez, Benigno Lopez, Frank Lopez and Miguel Lopez. Survivors include three daughters, Judy Lopez, Debra Lopez, Barbara Lopez and Tommy Campos all of Santa Rosa, his grandchildren, Delano Chavez, Vicente Chavez, Dennica Chavez, Tomas Campos, Larissa Campos, great grandchildren Mikaya, Lukas, Santiago and Leticia. Also surviving is a sister Dolores Chacon and his two special nieces, Anna Mae Coca and Janna Lopez, along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Sunday, October 20, at 6:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, at 11:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Thomas Kayammakal officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
