Earl Joseph Sullivan, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 11, at his home in Dilia. Earl was born on October 1, 1933 in Dilia, NM to the home of Clarence Adolf and Nellie (Norvell) Sullivan. He married Maria Urioste on February 7, 1959 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dilia, NM. Earl worked in Alaska, mining gold for many years, before returning to Dilia where he farmed and ranched. He enjoyed horse racing, fishing, rodeos, hunting and playing with his grandkids who were his pride and joy. Earl served on the Mora/San Miguel Cooperative, was the first board member for the Acequia Association, a Member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association, was actively involved in the Farmers Market and was active in Cursillo. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters and their spouses Charles Sullivan and his wife Evelyn, Corbett (Jack) Sullivan and wife Jean, Travis Sullivan, John Sullivan and his wife Carrie, Carl Sullivan and his wife Betty, Cody Sullivan and an infant brother Harold Sullivan, Mary Dent and husband Melvin, Ellen Haney and husband Frank, he is also preceded in death by his mother and father in law Augustine and Luz Urioste, his inlaws Sammy Urioste, Reymundo Urioste, Tomas Urioste, Canuto Urioste, Bonifacio Urioste and Estella Baca and her husband Ismael. Survivors include his wife Maria Sullivan of the family home, his children Joey Sullivan and Lavina of Dilia, Marietta Sullivan of Dilia, Belle Sullivan and special friend Roger Encinias of Dilia and a grandson that he raised Joseph Sullivan and special friend Carol Baca also of Dilia, his grandchildren Samantha Sullivan, Mark Sullivan, Nicole Martinez, Kelsey Martinez Peaster and husband Tom, Jordan Martinez, Daniel Hern and William Hern and his great granddaughter Erin Post Hern. Also surviving is his sister Jean Snead of Idaho and a special Cousin Harold Norvell and wife Benita as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. Serving as Pallbearers will be Roger Encinias, Mark Sullivan, George Urioste, Robert Lewis, Tomas Peaster, William Sewell. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Rosary Services will be held on Thursday, August 15, at 10:00 AM from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dilia with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated immediately following the rosary with Father Antonio Mondragon officiating. Burial will follow at the San Isidro Cemetery in DIlia. All services for Mr. Sullivan have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
