Services for Michael Todd Burnett, of Fort Sumner, NM will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Melrose Methodist Church, in Melrose, NM with Rev. Bethany Carpenter officiating. Michael Todd Burnett, age 50 passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at his home in Fort Sumner. He was born January 12, 1963 in Clovis, NM to the home of Felix Eugene "Sonny" and Linda Lee (Bolding) Burnett. Michael grew up and attended school in Clovis. His family later moved to Melrose where he graduated from Melrose High School in 1981. He worked for many years as a horse trainer in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. He worked at several horse racing tracks and made many lifelong friends all across the country. Michael also appeared in three western movies in the 1990's, Wyatt Earp, Tombstone, and The Night Before Christmas. In 2005 Michael began suffering from a debilitating heart disease. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Melrose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fort Sumner. He enjoyed fishing, and hunting. He made his home in Fort Sumner in 2009. Michael was preceded in death by his father Sonny Burnett in 1990, his maternal grandparents Warren Bolding and Winnie Bruce, and his paternal grandparents Don and Erma Burnett. Survivors include a daughter Chelsea Brynn Kauai and her husband Dino, two grandchildren Kinsey Kauai and Kaleo Kauai all of Roswell, NM, his mother and step-father Linda (Burnett) and Gary Hillis of Fort Sumner, a brother Scott Burnett and his wife Judy of Melrose, a sister Shelly Gurule and her husband Ronnie of Farmington, NM. Also surviving is Michael's caregiver, Mary Frances Carroll of Fort Sumner. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
