Norma Lee Wood, 83 of Fort Sumner passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at Plains Regional Medical Center following an illness. She was born October 18, 1929 in Taiban, NM to the home of Sam N. Martin and the former Hazel Isabell Hall. Norma Lee attended schools at Taiban, Fort Sumner, and New Mexico State University. She worked as a bookkeeper for Citizens Bank, served as secretary for Attorney John D. Donnell, and was a longtime bookkeeper and along with her husband owned and operated Fort Sumner Auto Company. Norma Lee married Floyd Earl “Flea” Wood on June 30, 1951 in the Julian’s Chapel in Fort Sumner. She was a longtime member of the Fort Sumner Garden Club where she held various offices, served as Treasurer and memorial chairman for the De Baca Chapter of The American Cancer Society served as secretary Treasurer of Alamo Boat Club; and was a member of the Wednesday and Thursday Bridge Clubs. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner. Norma Lee is preceded in death by her husband Floyd Earl Wood on September 8, 2012, her father Sam N. Martin, mother Hazel Martin Carr, a sister DeAlva Ernestine Hagerman, and a brother Ray H. Martin. Survivors include two brothers Herbert Martin of Lubbock, Texas and George Martin of Estancia, NM along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery, Anna Teeter will officiate.
