Alice Romero

Alice Romero, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX following an illness. Alice was born on September 18, 1935 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Lorenzo and Ofrosa (Ortega) Barela. She was reared and attended schools in Santa Rosa. She married Jose Amador Romero in 1958 in Las Vegas, NV. Alice was well known in Santa Rosa as being a wonderful cook and chef. She worked as a cook for the Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools for many years as well as numerous restaurants in Santa Rosa. Alice was famous for her tortillas and chili. She loved to crochet, play cards and cook. Alice made her home in Texas in 2004 to be near her children. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Amador and a brother Lorenzo Barela. Survivors include her children, step-daughter Angie Romero of Amarillo, TX, her son, Michael Romero, her daughters, Rose Romero, Gloria Madrid and husband Albert all of Lubbock, TX, Ida Sisneros and boyfriend Phillip Gonzales of Sanford, TX, and Barbara Serrano and husband Joe of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Emily Rivera and husband Hector of Santa Rosa, Judy Chavez and husband Rudy of Cuervo, NM and Jimmy Barela and wife Teresa of Santa Rosa along with 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Thursday, April 18, at 10:00 AM from St. Rose of Lima Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated following the Rosary. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will Samuel Serrano, Joshua Romero, Ryan Jurado, Michael Romero, Jr., Joe Michael Baca, Devyn Baca, Javier Romero, and Joe Lucero, Jr. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Natalie Romero, Amy Romero, Vanessa Sisneros, Kalee Romo, Krista Romo, Victoria Jurado, Amber Lucero and Samarah Serrano.
