Natividad Antonio “Tony” Romo, 78 a longtime Vaughn, NM resident died Friday, February 22, 2013 in Los Lunas, NM following an illness. Tony was born December 24, 1934 in Cuervo, NM to the home of Secundino Z. and Antonia (Gutierrez) Romo. Tony attended schools in Santa Rosa and attended NM Barber College. He served in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 33rd Transportation Company. He was honorably discharged on April 23, 1959. Tony married Amelia I. Gauna on June 27, 1972 in Vaughn, NM. They made their home in Vaughn, NM where Tony worked as a Master Barber and later served as a NM Motor Transportation Agent until his retirement. Tony enjoyed ranching, watching rodeo and was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Vaughn Senior Center. Tony is preceded in death by his wife Amelia, his parents, a brother Solomon Romo and a sister Aurora (Flo) Romero. Survivors include a son and daughter in law Mike and Sherry Romo and their children Isabelle and Nicholas all of Los Lunas, NM, a brother Marcelino and wife Lucy Romo of Albuquerque, and a sister Lucinda “Cindie” Sanchez of Tularosa, NM along with several nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. The family would like to extend their eternal gratitude to the staff at Good Life Senior Living for taking such wonderful care of Tony. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 pm Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn, NM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from the church with Father Paul Nkumbi officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Vaughn, New Mexico. Pallbearers will include Antonio Castillo Jr., Stephen Sanchez Jr., David Sanchez Sr., Ron Romero and Robert Romero, Greg Padilla, Patrick Romo, and Phillip Romo. Honorary bearers will include Pat Maes, Leroy Maes, Archie Maes, Louis Gauna Sr., and Benito Gutierrez. The family requests memorials in Tony Romo’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Vaughn, New Mexico. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
